Members of St Matthew Hockey Club:

I would like to thank you for your continued support of our St Matthew Hockey Club.  I have heard of many accomplishments and great hockey moments already achieved by individuals and teams.  It is an exciting time in the hockey season, as round two starts and I look forward to hearing more positive stories from players, coaches, and parents.

I encourage everyone that is a part of St Matthew: players to coaches, parents to extended families, to all remember that hockey is to be played for the love of the game.  Keep it positive and encouraging.  Negative comments will only be a distraction and will never build up a player, coach, or a team to grow stronger in the game we love, or in life in general.  So I ask that we keep our criticism to ourselves and share with others our encouragement and joy.

Social media has become a huge part of our society.   Sharing success and encouragement has a positive and profound result for our teams, but again, criticism and negative comments of players, coaches, parents, or our club, breakdown the community that we all belong to.

Through Hockey Edmonton and KC, St Matthew has adopted a strong policy towards removing the negative and hurtful side of hockey.  Guidelines and discipline through “Good Of The Game” will be enforced throughout the season.  Conduct on and off the ice is the responsibility of everyone involved.   Sportsmanship, Fair Play, and Respect In Sport is the main goal set out for all of us.  I ask you to support me in these goals, as the season continues.  With Guidelines set out from Hockey Edmonton, as an elected board, we will uphold these guidelines internally for the growth and development of all our players, coaches, and parents.

We have all chosen to join this hockey club and I ask that you take PRIDE in our association. If we work harder on strengthening ourselves than we do finding faults in others, we can all make St Matthew a club to be proud of.

I look forward to the remaining part of the season with personal and team growth and great examples of positive encouragement from our members.  I believe in us.

Thank you all.

Sincerely,

Dan Tabak

President of St Matthew Hockey Club
