Helmets on Coaches

Hockey Alberta recommends that CSA approved helmets be worn by all on ice personnel during on ice activities. See http://www.emha.ca/clientuploads/Documents/Helmets_On_Coaches.pdf for the bulletin.

Following this announcement, St. Matthew decided starting this season ALL St. Matthew Coaches and Assistant Coaches must wear helmets when you are on the ice.

EMHA's "Get The Point" Program

The GET THE POINT program awards teams with an ‘Injury Prevention Point’ (IPP) for staying within a preset penalty minute threshold for each league game played. Travel permits will be issued to those teams who obtain points in at least 50 per cent of their league games. An IPP is awarded to a team when the league game sheet indicates their total penalty minutes have not exceeded the following pre-set threshold for that category/division.

Novice	5 PIM
Atom	11 PIM (Top 3 Tiers) 7 PIM the rest
Peewee	17 PIM (Top 4 Tiers) 13 PIM the rest

SMHSC Coaching Philosophy

Our Coaches

St. Matthew Hockey & Sports Club uses volunteers to administer and coach it's minor hockey teams. We are fortunate to have so many excellent people in our organization as coaches and other volunteers.

Our qualified coaches contribute to our young hockey players lives by teaching hockey skills, addressing overall player development needs and promoting positive values.

Skill Development: The improvement in a player's ability to play the game on an individual level; his/her skating, passing, shooting, stickhandling and checking skills.

Positive Values: Personal characteristics that are learned or developed through participation in team sports such as Responsibility, Co-operation, Leadership, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Commitment, Respect, etc.
